Seed sources

Seed hygge…defined as that feeling of contentment and wellness that comes over you as you snuggle up in a good nook surrounded by seed catalogs and dreams. Let’s chat seed catalogs!

I’m lucky enough to live in a state that’s home to three wonderful seed companies: Johnny’s Select Seeds, Pinetree Seeds and Fedco Seeds. You cannot go wrong with any of these excellent seed sources. With a relatively short growing season, Johnny’s Select Seeds has always been my go-to for those plants that I want proven success on (ie. my Juliets!!). Their quality is top-notch and their variety selection will make you want it all! Pinetree Garden Seeds is located right here in my little town. They’re a wonderful resource for rare and unique seed varieties at really low prices making it easy to experiment with trying something new. Fedco Seeds catalog doesn’t include photos, rather whimsical descriptions and stories that’ll suck you right in. This seed coop specializes in cold-hardy varieties for Northern gardeners that won’t let you down.

My other go-to catalog favorites that I order from each year are Botanical Interests and Territorial Seed. It’s easy to fall smitten with Botanical Interests gorgeous seed packets, but that’s just the start. Their germination rate has been absolutely astounding and you can’t go wrong with any seed from here. Territorial Seed may be way on the other side of the country as us, but their seeds have been quite happy and vibrant growing here, especially their Costoluto Fiorentino tomatoes. While I’m not sure if they put out a catalog or not, I highly recommend checking out Renee’s Garden I was given a few packets from here a decade ago and have been a fan ever since. They offer some great hard-to-find heirlooms. Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds is a another great company to check out for rare seeds.

By the way, all the companies listed here sell non-GMO seeds!
